Cyprus

Hurrah, it’s October break! And, we are off to Cyprus!

The trip to Cyprus was four hours long by plane. When we arrived it was hot and sunny. Our hotel was right on the beach. I took one glance at the pool and I thought it was awesome! It had everything a water slide, a bubble pool and it had a bridge where water came out from below. I wanted to jump in right away! I sprinted to catch up to the rest of my family and we headed in the elevator. Next we arrived on the 3rd floor. We had two rooms one for my mom and dad and one for me my brother and my sister.

After we explored our room for 5 minutes we changed and went to the pool — everyone except my mom. She hates swimming in cold water! So we went without her. First up was the water slide. I got there first as usual and I slid down. It was so slow! We asked the lifeguard why we went so slow and he said: “you need to go head first.” We listened, and then we went so fast. We experimented for about 30 min and then we hopped out. It was late so we had to go inside. After all of that fun it was time to sleep. I knew there was a fun four days ahead of us so I could not wait to go to sleep.

In the morning my mom made me go down to the beach and feel the water to see  if it was cold as she wanted to swim in the Mediterranean Sea. I told her that the water was warm. My whole family played in the water. Anusha did not know it was salt water, and dipped her head in with her eyes open and started to scream! The rest of the day we were in the water and we had a great time.

In the morning we visited the ruins where the kings and all the rich people were buried at a place called Valley of Kings in Paphos. It was built by the Greeks. It was made from stone and it was like a secret cave system underground. There were about fifty of them and there are still more to be found. It was used for many other purposes too.  It was used as a hiding spot in the war.

Next, we visited the mosaics in Paphos. They were found when a farmer was digging on his farm  and he hit something hard! The mosaics had about thirty images. One was of the famous Greek figure Narcissus. It must have been so hard to make those mosaics using tiny pieces of rock to make just one face! Talk about making a whole body! This was my favorite thing we did in all of Cyprus. On this day of sightseeing we also saw more mosaics at Kourion and a big stone castle at Kolossi. We climbed all the way to the top of the castle. We were the only ones there!

One of the things I most enjoyed about Cyprus was the cats. Cats were everywhere. From in trashcans to tops of trees. They were even with us when we where eating at a seafood restaurant.

On the last day it was was time for more watersports.  We rented a boat called a “Mushroom” that had a motor you could steer. My sister got the faster one which was unfair! We were riding along when my sister said she saw a sea turtle. I came over a quickly as I could but when I got there it was gone. My dad who was with her said he saw it too. I was sad I did not get to see the turtle but it was a wonderful  four days at Cyprus!
